Firefox vs Opera [Nov. 22nd, 2008|10:38 am]
The Love Bug
[Tags|, ]

Right, there are certain things about Firefox that are really mounting my pecs of late. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Memory leaks
  • Tendency to hang whilst scrolling
  • Refusing to access the internet after 2 minutes of use
So I’m now trying Opera full-time until I decide whether I want to keep it or not.

Anyone else had issues with Firefox that makes them want to switch to something else? What have you done about it?

Memory leaks stopped for me when I found an errant Skype plugin. Don't get any of the other problems.

I've just disabled loads of plugins, so we'll see where that takes us.

I only have Tabmix Plus installed. The Skype plugin appeared to be causing MASSIVE memory leaks, with Firefox taking a GB of memory plus at times.

The Skype plugin is awful, converting anything that looks remotely like a phone number into something that normally throws the layout of the page.

I'm finding Opera somewhat slower than Firefox... so I'm kinda caught between a rock and a hard place. Firefox does exactly what I want it to do, it's just not very stable for me.

What I really want, is something with the rendering speed of Chrome (but Linux native), with the stability of something that probably hasn't been designed yet, and the extensibility of Firefox.

The daft thing is that I know Firefox has the ability to be all of these things, it's just not happening for me at the moment.

Not had any issues with Firefox either in 'dows or on 'nux. I suspect it may be a plugin that's causing your 'ssues.
