Scam alert... [Sep. 7th, 2003|09:06 am]
The Love Bug
[Current Mood |annoyedannoyed]

Be careful folks... I have just received emails on two of my email accounts from ebay.com, telling me that I need to validate my user information by logging in to my ebay.com account.

Firstly, I don't have an ebay.com account, and secondly, the link they give you does not go to ebay.com

Please be vigilant, and pass this message on to any ebay users that you know of.

Re: I checked my spam after reading this

What was on the page? Fill in your username/password? I guess there was no way for them to steal cookies or anything. I wasn't thinking last night then. Cuz I was curious, but did not want to click on the link.

it was just a standard looking ebay fill in your

details page ... but with out all the ebay headers and stuff ...

the links from with in that page were linked to ebay pages ...

not sure about the cookie stealing as I have a good firewall and run a spam detection progam so they auto block thinks like that ...

Yeah, I got that too. The email looked really suspicious, but I couldn't tell what was wrong with it. I then pasted the URL (text) into my browser and the page came up not found. Only then did I hover over the link and notice that it did not go to ebay.com (though the URL was still celver enough to fool many).

I have to give them "props" for their cleverness, but I sincerely hope that too many are not fooled by this scam.

thanks for that.

i got all annoyed at it because i thought it was just ebay hankering for more of my details, but after reading your post I deleted it.

wasn't that an exciting tale? :oD
