Well, it's been a while, but I'm back now :-) [Jun. 21st, 2000|04:22 pm]
The Love Bug
Hi folks... sorry for the long absence from my journal. I've been rather busy at work and stuff, as well as trying to sort out mine and Moo's new domain (moobug.co.uk)

But I'm back now :-)

I hav been keeping tabs on other people's journals though - to keep up to date on their lives.

I will say though... looking through some other people's LiveJournal friends lists, there are definately some people I will not be adding as friends. Not because they're not, but because I don't really want to be linked to some of the language that is being used by some people. I don't consider myself prudish or anything like that, but I do think that unnecessary swearing is out of order.

Anyway, ranting over! :-)

I'm at work at the moment, so I'll end here. Hope you haven't missed me too much! <g>

Love to all!!

Dave

Language

Dave,

I agree with people using bad language. I have looked through loads of diaries on here and some are pretty bad.

Re: Language

Secrets are meant to be shared with those who spare you the time to listen.

Wow, that was deep - I think I'll put that on my corkboard ;-)

Keep popping back to say hi though, even if you don't reveal your identity to me :-)

language

Dave
Have you not heard that the net is a key place for freedom of speach? I think that if a person chose to swear in their own journal then that is up to them. If you don't like their language then just don't read it.
I'm sorry if that sounds like I'm having a go - perhaps I am, but I don't wanna upset you, to be honest this is something I feel very strongly about so I'd take issue with anyone that was restricting another individuals freedom so it's not personal.

Re: language

Hi Emma...

I'm not trying to restrict freedom of speech in any way. I mean, people are entitled to their opinions. My concern is that although the Internet is a "free spirit", it is also accessed by anyone - including, for example, my 11 year old sister.

If you were to see the journal entries in question, you would hopefully understand my concern about it.

But also, in the interests of freedom of speech, I also feel I have the right to air my views too. <sweet smile>

Thanks for posting, I value your opinion :-)

Re: language

Dave
to be honest I'm sure your 11 year old sister hears much worse in the school play ground every day so I don't see why you wanna try and protect her so much. I mean sure stop her looking at porn sites and anti-semitic sites and other things like that but a bit of swearing is - perhaps unfortunately - a part of everyday life so you will not be able to completely stop her being exposed to it in one form or another.
But anyway - yes you do have just as much right to express your opinion that swearing is wrong as others have to swear and as I have to say that I think that you are being old fashioned and intolerant. (perhaps that's too harsh but I can't think of a better way of putting what I mean - so I hope you can understand that)

Re: language

Hi Emma,

I have to ask... have you seen the journal entries that I am referring to?

Re: language

I think so - but you'd better tell me which it is just incase I've got it wrong - I'd hate to be arguing the wrong point here ;o)

Re: language

I admit that that was not exactly one of the greatest pieces of English literature ever written but it sure shows his frustration (sp?) at a very pitiful England performance ;o)
