|[rant] Fog lights...

The Love Bug
Dear car drivers to whom this is relevant,
Those extra bright lights that are usually underneath your main headlights and blind other drivers are not "driving lamps" or "driving lights". They are "Fog Lights".
It is not big and it's not clever. It's bloody annoying. Particularly those of you who think that side lights and fog lights look cool. No, it's dangerous.
And according to the Highway Code rules 201 and 211, it's illegal and a criminal offence.
So please, switch the sodding things off when it's not foggy.
If you need to have brighter lights than your normal headlamps give you, then either get a car with decent headlamps or get your eyes tested.
It makes you want to go around with a 14lbs lump hammer and solve the problem yourself, doesn't it. But then my Dad says that if I had a hammer, I'd be bloody dangerous.
You're already dangerous without a hammer, sweetie. :oD
That's the biggest compliment anyone's ever paid me! I'm deeply flattered!
And I meant every word! :o)
It's gone on my profile with the other "endorsements" of me! It HAD to!
I second that! I've been blinded many times here.. but contrary to the UK nobody gives a damn about traffic rules and regulations.. police included... we have a traffic warden force for nothing!
Oh my. I missed that one!
You remember the one
about the coach driver who was holding a mobile phone in his right hand, winding down the window with his left hand (even though the window was on his right!) and had his daughter sitting on the dashboard?
He was banned but got the ban suspended, and then only got a fine?
That really annoyed me!!
Ah yes, I remember reading about this.
Traffic is bonkers over here in Brazil, but it seems to work. Despite the fact there are so many cars, so much traffic, and such poor roads, people are a lot more courteous.
Yeah, I've driven in Malta, so I know what you mean! :o)
Unfortunately, it's not contrary at all. Nobody seems to care in the UK either. Jumping red lights, dangerous driving, hand-held mobile phone use (which is illegal over here), etc, are all just part of the game nowadays.
Police do nothing, even when it happens right in front of them.
I wrote to my local Member of Parliament about it, and she wrote me a nice long letter saying how traffic crime is on the decrease, and quoted me lots of figures from the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, and whatnot.
However, it seems as though it's getting worse, not better.
tell me about it! *rolls eyes*
You, of all people, must appreciate the lack of traffic policing in the area. Particularly on the Brunel roundabout.
It really makes me angry.
my gwad yes!!!!!!!! yesterday the lights wernt even working round that roundabout! and there was no police and no temp lights i was discust!
there so lazy around here!!!!!!!!
It's really unfuriating. If someones driving towards me with them on, i'll flash mine on for a second, to see if they get the picture, and more often than not they do. Try that ;)
It's worked for me a couple of times.
I've tried doing it to people behind me as well, but that causes a problem... my car will not let me put the rear fog lights on without putting the front ones on first.
So end up flashing the person in front of me for no reason, even though it's the person behind me that I'm trying to flash.
Err... oo-er missus.
You're telling me you can't do a handbrake u-turn, flash the guy once, then spin back and set off again without him crashing into the back of you?!
I'm wholly disappointed :P I can ;)
Well said! I can't (under)stand it either...
