Good meets bad... [Jun. 1st, 2005|10:15 pm]
The Love Bug

Hoorah! We're on 1Mb broadband, for £15 less than the ½Mb we were on! :o)

Hooroo... I've now got 9 points on my driving licence. :o(

Well, I get 3.4Mbps connection for 39.99 a month.. Ok, it's over the odds maybe - but I get the most out of it...

I've got 3 points on mine - caught in an Articulated coach a couple of years back...

I assume your 9 are for speeding too?

Well I got done doing 44 in a 30 zone... The gits were at the bottom of a flyover with their little van :-(

I was driving one of these when I got caught :-

I was going to try and claim that my brakes failed on the way down the hill, but I don't think they'd have bought it... :-/

I thought the penalty would have been higher for driving a PSV, but obviously not. I'd also guess that the 'oh my brakes failed' was a popular excuse at the bottom of a hill! :o)

My oldest 3 was doing 60 on the M11 roadworks (50 zone)
My next 3 was doing 50 on the M25 roadworks (40 zone)
My recent 3 was the weekend before last, doing 48 in Sheffield (40 zone)

I got the middle lot just as the previous ones (not shown here) were removed, and I got the most recent ones just as the oldest ones (above) were getting close to their 3rd anniversary and thus wouldn't count any more.

I like a challenge, it seems.

Ouch. One time I always stick to the limit is motorway roadworks because I saw the stupid amount of cameras on the M6 over Brum a few years back when they were doing the toll road. It was at night and the place was like a concert with all the strobing camera flashes! I've been very careful round roadworks from then on. What type of camera got you?

Heh I nearly rear-ended someone today cos of a camera. Doing 40 in a 40 and I'm coming up to the camera so obviously because I don't want the points I'm spending more time looking at the speedo than I am the road ahead. The car in front of me brakes sharpish to 30 and I only just manage to slam mine on in time to avoid hitting him. Still even if I did cause a collision, it's better than 3 points on my license right? *sigh*

I really hate the whole mentality of blaming everything on people who speed. Speed doesn't cause accidents - bad driving does!

No. A collision = a claim on the insurance = a major premium increase since you're a new driver. 3 points on your licence.. only a £60 fine and usually no premium increase. However, as a new driver you are subject to a re-test at 6 points, if I recall.

Notices a pattern.

Oldest +10MPH over
Next +10MPH over
Recent +8MPH over

And theres me always nagging for you to watch your speed.. you need to get out of this mental issue of always finding yoursel doing 10 above the speed limit!

Re: *coughs*

Yeah Dave, if you're going to get caught, at least make it worth it! +50mph at least ;)

Would 'the speedometer wasn't operating correctly' not have gotten you off? I've seen so many busses in the past (West Midlands Travel) with broken dashboards... Often the speedos are broken, but now and again you'll see them where the whole lot is dead.

In the UK if you get caught by a speed camera you get a £60 (approx $100) fine and 3 points on your license... which I think stay on for up to 3 years (though don't count after 2 (or somthing like that))..

9 points means my darling hubbie has now been caught 3 times.. I believe that 12 points is the maximum you can have before you have to potentially go to court where they may ban you from driving for a certain amount of time.

The 3 occasions were seperate.. first one we were on a motorway late and night with hardly anyone else on thre but there was a speed restriction due to roadworks.... the second time he was in a hirecar which was much more powerful than he realised.. and the most recent we weren't aware of and until now always through that it was a 50MPH speed limit.
