Richard Whiteley died today, aged just 61.

I remember the first ever broadcast of Channel 4, back in 1982... I even had our telly tuned to the channel about 6 months before it was launched.  I watched the first ever Countdown.  He was a crap presenter then, and he was until even to this day.  But he was still a well-known and well-loved television personality, and he will be missed.

God bless you, Richard.

I heard this on the radio on the way back. I was so surprised, and quite upset to hear it. It's not like I knew the guy, he's just one of those "always there" tv presenters.
