BBC News: Comedian Richard Pryor dies, aged 65

He'd been suffering from MS for almost 20 years, and a heart attack took his life.  I'd seen a fair few of him films, but never really appreciated the 'infantile' combination of him and Gene Wilder. Superman III and Brewster's Millions remain the films that I will always associate him with.

2005 is not a good year... we've lost cinematic, entertainment, comedy and political icons.  Perhaps none more than any other year, but this year seems to be the year where the people who have affected me most, and people whom I have grown up with, have left.

Yeah, 2005 has been a sad year for you in terms of losses. I think every year has its ups and downs though. 2005 is also the year little Miss Amy entered your life! Swings and roundabouts and all that.

Richard Pryor was a true comedy genius and it's sad that he's gone but MS is a terrible disease - I know a guy I went to school with (we even started school the same day) who has had it for something like 5 years and he's steadily getting worse. He used to email me from his computer but he's now not even able to use a laptop anymore.

It was probably a mercy for Pryor, in the end.

RIP.
