MOT Failed... [Mar. 25th, 2006|11:52 am]
The Love Bug
[Current Mood |pissed offpissed off]

*insert string of heavy and excessive expletives here*

She failed on two counts:
  1. Rear Fog Lamp
Yeah, well I knew the bulb was gone, and I asked them to replace it.  However, when they did, it still didn't work.  Immediate failure, without investigative reasoning.

  2. Rear N/S Brakes
Quoted as "little or no effort" - meaning that it basically doesn't work.  Immediate failure, without investigative reasoning.
The upshot of this is that I have a car without a new MOT, and as my previous MOT certificate has already expired, the only legal journeys I can make in my car are to and from an MOT test centre.

I cannot get the items in question fixed until Monday morning, as my service centre closes at 12:30 today.

Spot the problem?

I have a wife and child in Yorkshire that I cannot go and see.  I have a wife whom I wanted to spend Mothering Sunday with, and I have my Mum in Worcestershire who we were going to visit tomorrow.  I now cannot do this.

I looked into the possibility of getting a hire car, but our plans revolved around the fact that I was going to work in Nottingham on Tuesday and come back on Wednesday.  That's 5 days car hire.  In addition, I'd need to allocate time to put Charlie back in for fixing/MOT and it's financial year end next week... I'm also working next weekend, so that idea doesn't really work.

You have no idea how pissed off I am about this... not to mention how disappointed Caroline, Amy, my Mum and Caroline's Mum are feeling.

Gaah!

Bollocks!

Not without paying the MOT fee again, no.

Could you take a train? Can't someone come and get you? Or maybe I'm not aware of exactly how far apart you are.

We're 190 miles apart... but it's not just that... I'll need to get to work on Tuesday, and then bring Caroline and Amy home on Tuesday night.

How did the girls get to where they are? Do they have another car with them? Did you get to spend Mothering Sunday with them in the end? I'm full of questions, aren't I? :-)

Doh!

MOT's are a real pain in the arse.
You have to have one by law but they don't prove anything other than your car was roadworthy at the day the MOT was carried out. It is effectivly worthless after that other than enabling you to get a tax disk (though you can get tax disks online now which is quite handy).

Not that this is any use to you now (& you probably already know this anyway) but you can have the MOT carried out up to a month before the old one expires and the expiry date of the new certificate will be dated 1 year from the expiary date of the old certificate.

MOT testers aren't required or even allowed to investigate why something doesn't work.

I'm pretty sure you're legally allowed to drive to a pre-booked appointment at a garage to fix it...

I was a few days late getting my MOT a few weeks ago and drove Stoke-> Milton Keynes-> Surrey-> Stoke. I even used the toll road which is littered with ANPR cameras, all without getting a letter in the post.
