The Love Bug
Now that LiveJournal is back up and running, I suppose it's about time for me to update on a few things.

Glasses

I went for an eye test last Saturday and found out that I hadn't been for an eye test for over 3 years!!!! The fact that two days after the test, I received a letter from Specsavers telling me this kinda confirmed it for me! LOL

moosical was with me during the test and helped me choose the frames for both sets of glasses (2 for 1 offer). Now, tell me something... how difficult is it, when you're choosing shoes, glasses, clothes, etc, to find the ideal pair straight away? Well, moosical and I both looked at the same pair at the same time within 5 seconds of looking at the frames section, and they are the ones that I'm wearing now!!! LOL

Anyway, I'm really happy with my new specs. Although the prescription is only marginally stronger than my last set, things are appearing much clearer than before!

context-sensitive mood: happy

Work

Work in general is ok but - for want of a better word - challenging.

As regular readers of my journal (when I post, that is) will know, once a month I work all weekend to update the file on our database. Well, this weekend was that time. Now, when I did the test run of the file load, I did notice that it took a lot longer than normal. Usually it's roughly a 12-14 hour process on our test machine, and 4-6 hours on the live machine. The test run this month took over 36 hours. This should have rang alarm bells in my head, but I was aware that the process file was roughly 70% larger than normal, so I just let it pass.

Fatal mistake.

I got a phone call this morning at 10:00 - approx 14 hours since I started the job - and I was told that the job was roughly 25% completed. At that rate, the job won't be complete until midnight Saturday. But then there's at least another 15 hours of work to do.

So basically I'm totally screwed unless our DBA can do something to speed the process up. If he can't, we'll have to roll everything back to how it was Friday night, and then repeat the process next weekend.

I'm in trouble.

Update (15:56 BST)
Ok, it seems as thought we may be able to get this job completed this weekend, but prolly not until about 6am Monday morning!! Ouch!

context-sensitive mood: anxious

Caroline

moosical has gone up north this weekend, to spend some time with her parents. The idea was that she didn't become totally bored whilst I was working. Well, obviously I'm not working, so now it's me who's bored! LOL

So far today I have watched Frequency (DVD), The Cell (DVD), Scary Movie (VHS), The Truman Show (VHS).

How sad is that?? LOL

Update (18:35 BST)
Just seen Sliding Doors (VHS) too! :-)

Update (21:13 BST)
Now watching The Matrix (VHS) !!!!

context-sensitive mood: silly

Anyway, that's all I'm gonna natter on about for now. I'll update when I know more.

YAY!! :-)
Don't forget to get off at Langley! LOL

Judging by your IP address, I'm guessing that you posted from Shaun's place! <g>

Although I'm sure that if you ventured into your Psion, you could quite easily work out how to log in from there!!! ;o)
