The Eyes Have It

So, today I had my 6 monthly contact lens aftercare appointment at Boots Opticians in Doncaster. I always dread these appointments, because I blatently ignore advice. I know I shouldn’t do it, but there you go.

I have monthly disposable lenses, but I’ve been advised to take them out each night to rest my eyes. However, over the last few years, I’ve deemed that the necessity of doing this has diminished somewhat. I rely on my eyes to tell me when I need to rest them, rather than the remote advice of a multi-cliented professional who doesn’t wear my lenses. Yes, I know that’s somewhat flippant, but I trust my eyes... but at the same time I don’t want to put them at any risk.

And it would seem as though I am right! :o)

For the last two months, I’ve worn my lenses continually for the entire duration of the month’s wear. This is what the lenses were designed for, although my eyes had previously protested at this kind of activity. In my early times wearing contacts, I couldn’t do more than two days at a time... but over time that period had extended to 3 or 4 days, a week, two weeks, and then ultimately to a full month.

Anyway, at my appointment today, my eyes were given a clean bill of health and I’m to go back in 6 months time as normal. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that I’m going to ignore my eyes when they tell me that they need a rest... far from it. I’m going to be more aware of them now that I ever have been, even making a point to give my eyes at least one day’s rest every week or two, just to keep them quiet.

It’s all good!!
